All items must include a deadline. Torres has new reason to seek gold Four-time Olympic swimmer Dara Torres is coming out of retirement again and is setting her sights on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team. Torres, 39, who has won nine Olympic medals in her illustrious career, set a world record in her age group during the mixed 200m freestyle relay in last weeks Masters World Championships. Distance running Weekly runs: The Palm Springs Running Club will meet on a weekly basis every Monday at 4 p.m. at the Palm Springs High School track. All ages and abilities are welcome for group runs and workouts. Training for a triathlon If it is May, that means the basic stage of training is about to begin for Doug Bushee. For five days a week Bushee will swim at Lake Newport, run around the Lake Anne and North Shore areas and bike across the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. Third and Short The United ISD UIL swimming program is starting for the school year. Eugene Watson returns for his sixth year as the swim director. Any UISD student in grades 9 to 12 is eligible. With eye on Beijing, Madwed competes in international meet There will be hundreds of athletes from the United States marching during the opening ceremony the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and 17-year-old Dan Madwed has a legitimate goal of being one of them.
